The new Netflix period drama My Brilliant Career has scored a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes on its release day, with critics praising the adaptation and its cast, including Slow Horses star Christopher Chung.
The Australian series, based on the 1901 novel by Miles Franklin, follows young Sybylla, played by Philippa Northeast, as she resists societal pressure to become a proper lady while aspiring to be a writer. All six episodes are available to stream at once.
Critical acclaim and cast reactions

Christopher Chung takes on iconic role
Chung, 38, who plays Harry Beecham in the series, shared on Instagram that Sam Neill, who played the role in the 1979 film, had sent him a message of support before his death in July at age 78. Neill said: 'Chris, I want to wish you all the best. You don't need any luck for this, you've got it in hand. I've got one tip for you. Out-charm Sybyl.'
In his reply, Chung said: 'Oh, hey there Sam. It's Harry Beecham here. I just wanted to say a big thank you for your message and your tremendously wise words about taking on this iconic role, which you made incredibly large shoes to fill. But I'm so pleased that I get to follow in your footsteps.'
Fans commented on the exchange, with one writing: 'This is both beautiful and heartbreaking,' and another adding: 'What a legacy and what a beautiful job you did to honour it.'
