Sir Tom Jones stunned as Voice UK star returns after 10 years

Sir Tom Jones was left speechless during the latest instalment of The Voice UK. The Welsh singing legend returned to screens on Saturday (October 3) for the final round of blind auditions, alongside his fellow coaches will.i.am, Kelly Rowland, and Danny Jones and Tom Fletcher.

Swansea teen follows in mother's footsteps

18-year-old Regan Preece from Swansea was the first hopeful to face the panel. He was joined by his mum Shellyann, who was a contestant on the show 10 years ago. The family were seen watching back his mum's audition ahead of Regan's moment.

"Being on set, all the bright lights, the loud music - that inspired me. I kind of want to follow in her footsteps," Regan explained.

As well as singing, Regan explained that he also plays rugby every day. "With rugby and singing, eventually I will have to choose one. I'm constantly in two minds, but we'll see what the future holds for me," he said.

Emotional family moment in the studio

In the studio, Shellyann was seen saying to her son: "This is your time now." Regan told the cameras: "Mum got to the knockouts on the show, and that was probably a feeling I'll never forget, like how proud my mum made everyone. So today, I'm making my family proud. It means more than the world to me."

Shellyann added: "Watching Regan today, this is like full circle. And it chokes me up." She then told herself: "Pull yourself together, Shelly!"

Regan performed a stunning rendition of Zach Bryan's 2022 hit Something in the Orange, with Sir Tom and McFly's Tom and Danny soon turning their chairs. The coaches were then left gobsmacked when Regan revealed that his mum had appeared on the show before.

"I do know someone you know," Regan said to Sir Tom, who was visibly stunned. The star added: "So, my mum was on the show in 2015."

Regan chooses his coaches

Shellyann then came onto the stage and shared her pride after watching her son perform. She said: "It's pretty amazing this, to see my baby do his thing and have his moment. It's the best feeling in the world!"

Regan then performed a duet with Danny Jones, which left the audience cheering. The youngster then went on to choose Danny and Tom Fletcher as his coaches. Addressing Tom Jones, Regan said: "Tom, I'm very, very sorry."

Viewers were quick to share their reactions after watching the audition. "Danny Jones duetting with Regan!" one person wrote on X.

Another added: "Lovely stuff from Regan to get 2 turns there. Also made to think that his mum was on the show 11 years ago. A very talented mother & son, clearly." Someone else commented: "Yes Tom, Regan is so good."

The Voice UK is available to stream on ITVX.
