Sherrie Hewson, the 65-year-old actress best known for her role in Benidorm, has announced her departure from ITV's Loose Women after 14 years. The emotional announcement was made live on the daytime show, with Hewson fighting back tears as she explained her decision.
Hewson stated that she felt it was time to leave, saying she had 'said everything there is' during her tenure. She added that her connection to the show would never leave her, comparing it to 'a rock in Blackpool'. However, she hinted at a possible return, quoting Arnold Schwarzenegger's famous line, 'I'll be back'.
The actress expressed gratitude for the support she received from her fellow panellists, which helped her through personal struggles including the collapse of her marriage, bankruptcy, and a period of stress that caused her hair to fall out. She praised the camaraderie among the panel, noting that they 'all care about each other'.
Andrea McLean, a fellow panellist, became emotional as she recalled Hewson's support during her own marriage breakdown, saying Hewson gave her 'the strength to leave'. Hewson's colleagues promised a 'good send off' before her final appearance on September 5th.
