After years of speculation, ABC has officially greenlit a revival of the cult medical comedy Scrubs, with a new season scheduled to air during the 2025–2026 TV season. The network confirmed the news on Friday, following reports by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.
Original stars Zach Braff, Sarah Chalke, and Donald Faison will reprise their iconic roles and also serve as executive producers. Braff, who played lead John 'J.D.' Dorian, teased the announcement on Instagram by singing a reworked version of the show's theme song, while Chalke and Faison shared nostalgic posts.
Scrubs originally ran from 2001 to 2010, spanning nine seasons across NBC and ABC. Known for its blend of surreal humour and emotional depth, the series earned three Emmy nominations and averaged over 10 million viewers per episode in its early years.
A synopsis for the revival states: 'JD and Turk scrub together for the first time in a long time. Medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time.' Creator Bill Lawrence, who also co-created Ted Lasso, expressed excitement about reuniting the cast.
