Saturday Kitchen returned to screens this weekend, with presenter and chef Matt Tebbutt welcoming special guest Ben Miller to the iconic kitchen. The show aired live on September 5, marking a return to its regular format after weeks of pre-recorded episodes.
Matt Tebbutt, who has hosted the BBC cooking programme for almost a decade, was joined by chefs Yotam Ottolenghi and Poppy O'Toole, alongside actor Ben Miller, who discussed his latest career updates. At the start of the programme, Matt addressed viewers at home after their favourite part of the show had seemingly been 'missing' for several weeks.
Matt Tebbutt announces live return
He said: "Good morning, it's the start of a new term for everyone and we're back cooking live. We've assembled a brilliant line up to deliver an abundance of amazing recipes and recommendations to take us into the new season. This is Saturday Kitchen Live."
Viewers were distracted just minutes into the latest instalment, having realised the show is finally back to being aired live. It came after the segment was replaced with a prerecorded format during the summer months whilst the crew took their "holidays".
Fans react to live broadcast
During the summer weeks, typically in July and August, the BBC airs pre-recorded episodes, titled Saturday Kitchen Best Bites, featuring highlights and recipes from previous episodes that viewers have already seen before. The show has today returned to its normal, live service and viewers are made up.
Taking to X, one person said: "It's live, at last", as another admitted: "#SaturdayKitchen it’s going to be a noisy one." Over on Instagram, others also shared their excitement as one fan penned: "So glad it's back live." Another wrote: "Live again woohoo." A third added: "So glad the live show is back", as a fourth echoed: "Should be a great show."
Ben Miller faces food heaven or hell
Actor Ben appeared on the show today to speak about his latest projects including his recent spy thriller as well as facing the iconic food heaven or food hell public vote - which viewers were also pleased to see return.
Just minutes in, Ben was branded a "hypocrite" as host Matt asked: "Presumably with your coffee making skills you drink milk?" Admitting he does drink milk, Matt joked: "Well then, you're a hypocrite", before bursting into laughter as Ben joked he would leave the show.
When asked why, Matt replied: "Obviously, if you drink milk it's coming from the calf, from the cows and there is a surplus of calves. it is a byproduct." Ben stated: "So we should stop drinking milk?" as Matt clarified "don't say that, the British farmers", adding: "Or we should be eating."
Saturday Kitchen airs on BBC One every Saturday at 10am.
