Sacha Baron Cohen and Rosamund Pike are set to star in Netflix's upcoming limited series 'The Spy', which will premiere on September 6. The six-episode miniseries, each episode an hour long, is based on the true story of Eli Cohen, Israel's top Mossad spy in Syria during the 1960s.
Netflix released three images on Wednesday showing Baron Cohen in character as Eli Cohen, including one where he is seen in a beige linen suit walking through a bustling Syrian street, another in a cream tuxedo at a party, and a third looking dispirited while sitting with luggage near a newsstand.
The series follows Cohen as he goes undercover in Syria, successfully gathering intelligence on anti-Israel secret initiatives through close relationships with military leaders and wealthy friends. Baron Cohen's character is described as a man who wants to serve his country but finds it difficult to shed his double identity due to his success.
'The Spy' is written and directed by Gideon Raff, creator of the Israeli drama 'Prisoners of War', which inspired Showtime's 'Homeland'. The cast also includes Noah Emmerich as Dan Peleg, Eli's Mossad handler, Hadar Ratzon Rotem as Eli's wife Nadia, and Waleed Zuaiter as Amin Al-Hafz, a military officer who believes he has found a perfect ally in the undercover Cohen.
