Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy are returning to the Muppet Theatre for a special revival of 'The Muppet Show', marking the franchise's 50th anniversary. The event, premiering on February 4, 2026, on Disney+ and ABC, will feature guest stars Sabrina Carpenter, Maya Rudolph and Seth Rogen, who also serves as executive producer.
The special sees the beloved Muppets ensemble reunite for a night of music, comedy and chaos, with Carpenter as their special guest. It will stream on Disney+ at 12 a.m. PST/3 a.m. EST and air on ABC at 9 p.m. EST/PST. A new version of 'The Muppet Show Theme (2026)', performed by the Muppets and produced by Bill Sherman, will be released on the same day.
Veteran Muppet performers including Bill Barretta, Dave Goelz, Eric Jacobson, Peter Linz, David Rudman and Matt Vogel will bring the iconic characters to life. Goelz, who has worked with the Muppets for over 50 years, originated characters such as Gonzo and Dr. Bunsen Honeydew on the original series.
Created by Jim Henson, the original 'The Muppet Show' aired from 1976 to 1981 in over 100 countries, featuring guest stars like Elton John, Johnny Cash and Diana Ross. It earned Emmy, Grammy, Peabody and BAFTA awards, with Time magazine calling it 'the most popular television entertainment now being produced on Earth' in 1978.
The special is directed by Alex Timbers and executive produced by Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver and Alex McAtee for Point Grey Pictures. David Lightbody, Leigh Slaughter and Michael Steinbach executive produce for The Muppets Studio, with Carpenter, Albertina Rizzo, Vogel and Jacobson also serving as executive producers. 20th Television, Disney Branded Television, The Muppets Studio and Point Grey are producing.
