Disney+ has released a new trailer for Rivals, which returns on November 11 with three new episodes. The second part of season two picks up after the shock death of Lady Baddingham, played by Claire Rushbrook, in the final scenes of the last run of episodes.
In the trailer, a grieving Lord Baddingham, played by David Tennant, vows: “She’s not here anymore, I’ve got nothing left to do but fight!” The media mogul, already seen looking broken, is soon back to being selfish and evil as ever, set to become even more devious.
Freddie and Lizzie’s Affair Reaches a Crossroads
Elsewhere, Freddie Jones (Danny Dyer) and author Lizzie Vereker (Katherine Parkinson) may be reaching a crossroads in their red-hot affair. Lizzie says: “I assumed you weren’t sleeping together,” referring to Freddie and his wife. Freddie replies: “Do you want me to stop?”
Lizzie, who is also married, then says: “I don’t think I can ask you that,” as things appear to be getting more complicated as feelings grow deeper between the pair.
Three Episodes Drop on November 11
The second part of Rivals season two will launch on November 11 with three episodes dropping on Disney+ that day. That will leave three more episodes, including the finale, to be released weekly over the following three weeks.
In the trailer, womaniser Rupert Campbell-Black, played by Alex Hassell, is warned: “You will run out of hearts to break.” He replies: “I intend to leave hearts well alone in the future,” but seconds later he is seen cosying up to Taggie O’Hara as the pair look once again close to kissing. Elsewhere in the trailer there are weddings and at least one funeral in the mix.
Declan O’Hara, played by Aidan Turner, sums up the saucy and shocking storylines when he says: “Life’s not all magic and fairytales.”
Tennant Teases Tony Baddingham’s Darker Path
Speaking previously, David Tennant teased a little of what may be ahead, with his character set to be even more ambitious and ruthless. Tony Baddingham has already been almost killed when hit on the head in season one and now will cope with his wife’s death.
Speaking on the Rivals podcast, Tennant said: “I think the blow on the head sort of took away some of Tony's limiters. If he ever had any, it feels like the guardrails are off from that point. It does. And then losing Monica, which was really his final anchor, the only thing that held him back to any sense of propriety and in place, and gave him a home, and gave him a sort of something to return to, a solidity and a continuity. Without that, he's in trouble, without a doubt. In some ways, it makes him all powerful, because there is nothing to hold him back. Yeah, no restraint. There's no one that he feels he has to live up to.”
All episodes of Season 1 and the first six episodes of Season 2 are available to stream now on Disney+. Season 2 part two launches on November 11 with three episodes, and then the final three episodes, 10-12, will be released weekly after.
