Richard Osman teases House Of Games return after final episode

Richard Osman has teased a possible return to House Of Games as a contestant after his emotional final episode as host of the BBC show. The former Pointless star launched Richard Osman's House of Games in 2017, and his final episode aired on Friday (October 2) after nine years.

Osman's farewell message

In March, Osman confirmed his decision to step away from the programme. He said in a statement at the time: "It has been such a great pleasure, and honour, to present House of Games for the last nine years, with the absolute best team in television. But it's time to let someone else have a go, and I'm very excited to hand over the House keys to the lucky new host!"

Actor Michael Sheen, known for The Damned United and the Twilight series, was later revealed as his replacement. Sheen is currently appearing in the latest series of Celebrity Traitors.

Final week and handover scene

Osman's final week was won by Lucy Porter, who competed against former winners Cariad Lloyd, Miles Jupp and Kiell Smith-Bynoe. Signing off, Osman said: "This show is House of Games not because of me, because of these incredible people and the question minders and all that, so you are in very, very safe hands with this new host as well. From me to you, thank you. Thank you for watching. That's the real pleasure of this show is you, is viewers, and people watching with their family and all sorts of things."

After the credits, a special scene aired showing Osman sitting in one of the contestants' chairs. Speaking to a mystery figure in his normal chair, he said: "Thank you so much for coming to look at the house. Down sides, I'll be honest – bedrooms, there are no bedrooms. Garden, there is no garden. Kitchen, there's no kitchen. But, upsides, plenty of seating. Say, for example, one day you want to invite around a Gladiator, someone from Steps, a stand-up comedian and Raj Bisram from Antiques Road Trip, you've got plenty of room."

The chair then spun around to reveal Sheen, who said: "I'll take it," before giving a cheeky smile to the camera.

Tease of a future appearance

On Saturday (October 3), Osman shared a video from his final moments on Instagram, thanking fans for their support and teasing that he might not be done with the series. He captioned the post: "The very fondest of farewells to #HouseOfGames, it really has been a treat from start to finish. I can't wait to watch @mablilyradad taking the hot seat from Monday. And who knows, maybe I'll even turn up as a contestant one day? Thank you for all the love yesterday, and over the years."
