Richard Osman has revealed he would only consider appearing on Celebrity Traitors if he could guarantee his role as a traitor, insisting he could not cope with being wrongly accused as a faithful contestant.
The television presenter and author, who turned 55 on Friday, told The Chipping Forecast podcast that he had been approached for the hit BBC show. "I said to them, they did ask, I said I could only do it as a traitor," he explained. His reasoning centres on the round table discussions, where contestants try to identify the traitors among them.
"If I am sat around that table and someone accuses me of being a traitor and I am a traitor, I don't mind, of course, that's fine and I'll fight for myself," he said. "If I'm around that table and someone accuses me of being a traitor, and I'm a faithful, I would lose my mind. I would, honestly, I would not be able to deal with it in anyway whatsoever."
Osman, known for creating and hosting Pointless, also reflected on his career during an appearance on The High Performance Podcast. He admitted experiencing real fear for the first time while waiting to host his debut episode of Pointless, hearing the live audience from his makeup chair.
He said the fear was a matter of confronting it head on, explaining there are "two choices with fear: it's either feeling the fear or go home." He added: "So I sat there, I went out there, I felt slightly uncomfortable."
