A couple who appeared on The Repair Shop were moved to tears after uncovering a hidden message from their son, who died 15 years ago from a rare form of testicular cancer.
John and Margaret Ivin lost their son Chris in 2012 at the age of 34. While renovating their kitchen in 2024, they found a note Chris had written as a teenager on the wall behind a cupboard. The message read: 'This is original wallpaper. Friday 4:15, 8th December 1989. Please leave this wallpaper, Chris.'
The piece of wall crumbled, so the couple brought it to The Repair Shop. Specialist Rob Fraser restored the message and sealed it in a picture frame. Margaret described the work as 'brilliant', adding: 'Even the torn bits of paper are back together. This is better than I ever would have imagined it to be.'
Chris worked as a camera operator for acts including AC/DC and Tina Turner. His mother said he often left little notes around the house saying 'I love you'. The episode left viewers emotional, with many praising the restoration on social media.
