Ranvir Singh was visibly moved on Wednesday's Lorraine as she discussed a candid interview with Emma Heming Willis about her husband Bruce Willis's battle with frontotemporal dementia. The presenter, standing in for Lorraine Kelly, admitted that footage from the interview, which airs in the US with journalist Diane Sawyer, had left her heartbroken.
In the interview, Emma revealed that while Bruce is in "really great health overall", his brain is failing him. She explained that the language is going and that the family has learned to adapt, finding a different way to communicate with the Die Hard star. Emma, who shares two daughters with Bruce, also described noticing early warning signs, including a stutter he had previously had and changes in his behaviour.
She spoke about how confusing the period was, saying: "It just got very bumpy and very confusing." Ranvir reflected on this, noting that many people would connect with Emma's experience of piecing together clues in hindsight, without realising at the time that they pointed to early-onset dementia.
The interview also revealed that Bruce lives separately from Emma and their children, with the actor residing next door with a carer. Emma recounted a poignant moment with their daughter Mabel, who commented on her father's stomach, leading Bruce to respond: "You think I'm fat?" Emma described the moment as remarkable, as they had not heard him string words together in so long.
Fighting back tears, Emma expressed her deep desire to support her husband, saying she would love to know if he is scared or worried, and to be able to have a conversation with him. Ranvir, clearly affected, confessed: "Some of the clips that I've seen just honestly, it breaks your heart... It's making me choke a bit listening to that."
