Prison Break is set to return for a 10-episode run on Fox, the network has confirmed. The announcement was made by Fox chairman and CEO Gary Newman at the Television Critics Association event in Pasadena.
Original creator Paul Scheuring will be involved in the revival, alongside stars Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell. The show has gained a new audience since being acquired by Netflix, where its previous four seasons achieved cult status among streamers.
Fox’s Dana Walden revealed that the series will pick up several years after the original concluded, with the brothers returning along with other iconic characters. The revival will ignore the 2009 movie spin-off, which had depicted the death of Miller’s character, Michael Schofield.
Walden admitted there is some ambiguity over the show’s direction, but said it will address questions from the original series while also appealing to new viewers. Newman expressed confidence that the project will go straight to series once written materials are ready.
