Saturday Night Live has announced its return for Season 51, premiering on October 4. The date aligns with recent seasons, following Season 50's September 28 launch and Season 49's October 14 start.
Decisions on cast changes are still in early stages, with creator Lorne Michaels not expected to make major moves for weeks. Sources indicate Michaels may favour character-driven performers over stand-ups for the new season, though casting remains fluid and unpredictable.
The current cast includes 17 members: Michael Che, Mikey Day, Andrew Dismukes, Chloe Fineman, Heidi Gardner, Marcello Hernandez, James Austin Johnson, Colin Jost, Michael Longfellow, Ego Nwodim, Sarah Sherman, Kenan Thompson, Devon Walker, Bowen Yang, and featured players Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, and Jane Wickline.
While some departures are anticipated, a full exodus like the eight-member exit after Season 47 is not expected. The first round of new cast submissions occurred before July 4, but available slots remain unclear.
