Charlie Brooker, the creator of Black Mirror, has set his next project at Netflix: an untitled four-part detective series starring Paddy Considine, Lena Headey and Georgina Campbell.
The show follows a tormented detective from the fictional Northern city of Bleakford who travels to London to hunt a ritualistic serial killer. The official logline describes it as a “profoundly serious, stunningly original crime thriller” that “contains blood and frowning” – a description clearly delivered with tongue in cheek.
Brooker said in a statement: “I’m beyond thrilled to be saying these words for the press release. I’ve dreamt of providing a quote ever since I was a young foetus, and now here I am doing it. I’d pinch myself, but like all of us, I’m terrified that if I do that, I might wake up and discover 2025 has all been a magical dream. Please watch my show. I am begging you.”
Brooker wrote the series with Ben Caudell, Jason Hazeley, Emer Kenny, Daniel Maier and Joel Morris, with additional material by Victoria Asare Archer. He executive produces alongside Black Mirror colleagues Annabel Jones and Jessica Rhoades, with Mark Kinsella as co-executive producer, Richard Webb as producer and Al Campbell directing.
The series is produced directly by Netflix, following Brooker and Jones’s departure from their Netflix-owned production company Broke & Bones. Brooker’s previous work includes the spoof cop drama A Touch of Cloth and Black Mirror, whose seventh season launched in April 2025; there is no word yet on an eighth.
