Starz has officially confirmed that an Outlander prequel series, titled Blood of My Blood, is in development. The writers' room has opened for the drama, which will follow the love story of Jamie Fraser's parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser.
Matthew B. Roberts will write the series and serve as showrunner and executive producer. He currently fulfills the same roles on the flagship series, now in production on its seventh season. Maril Davis and Ronald D. Moore will also executive produce under their Tall Ship Productions banner, with Story Mining & Supply Company joining as executive producers.
Diana Gabaldon, whose novels inspired the franchise, will serve as a consulting producer. She revealed in February that she is writing a prequel book about Jamie's parents.
Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming at Starz, said: 'Outlander is a riveting show that from season to season has captured the hearts of its fans around the world. We are excited to peel back the layers of this vibrant world to bring our audience the origin of where it all began.'
Outlander: Blood of My Blood will be produced by Sony Pictures Television, with Karen Bailey overseeing the project for Starz.
