Open Casting for Ginny Weasley in HBO's Harry Potter Series

Producers of the new HBO Harry Potter television series have announced an open casting call for the role of Ginny Weasley, following the departure of actress Gracie Cochrane after the first season.

Why the Recasting?

Gracie Cochrane, who portrayed Ginny Weasley in the first season of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, will not return for season two due to undisclosed circumstances. In a statement, Cochrane and her family said: “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Gracie has made the challenging decision to step away from her role as Ginny Weasley in the HBO Harry Potter series after season one.” HBO expressed support, stating: “We support Gracie Cochrane and her family’s decision not to return for the next season of HBO’s Harry Potter series, and we are grateful for her work on season one of the show.”

Open Casting Details

The open casting call is for UK residents aged 10 to 12. Applicants must submit two videos by July 17. The first video requires a 30-second recitation of a poem or story (not from Harry Potter) using the applicant’s natural accent. The second video should be a 30-second introduction including date of birth, height, location, and a description of a close family member, friend, or pet.
