Nina Warhurst is the frontrunner to take over from Naga Munchetty on BBC Breakfast, according to bookmakers, after Munchetty confirmed she is stepping down from the programme.
Munchetty's Departure
Naga Munchetty has been part of BBC Breakfast for 17 years, including 12 years on the red sofa. She announced this week that she is leaving to present 5 Live Breakfast five days a week from January.
In a statement, she said: "It has been a privilege to be part of the BBC Breakfast TV team for the past 17 years, working alongside an incredibly talented and hard-working group of journalists who are not only outstanding colleagues but also great friends."
She added: "Presenting a flagship programme on 5 Live is an opportunity that was simply too good to pass up. It will take a huge amount of work and require 100% of my focus and energy, and I'm really looking forward to throwing myself into the role."
Replacement Favourites
Betway has installed Nina Warhurst as the 7/4 favourite to replace Munchetty. Warhurst previously served as BBC Breakfast's chief business presenter and also stood in as host, before moving to front BBC News at One last year.
Other contenders include BBC journalists Tina Daheley (4/1) and Emma Vardy (7/1). Current BBC Breakfast host Jon Kay, who usually presents with Sally Nugent, has odds of 8/1. Rachel Burden, Ben Thompson and Luxmy Gopal, all part of the stand-in line-up, are at 10/1. Anna Foster of the Today programme is at 25/1, while Victoria Derbyshire is a longshot at 40/1.
