Netflix subscribers have rediscovered a 2005 action horror film, The Cave, calling it 'extremely underrated' and a 'comfort horror' watch that never disappoints. The movie recently joined the streamer's library and quickly climbed to the third most watched film among UK subscribers, trailing only Netflix originals Enola Holmes 3 and Voicemails for Isabelle.
Plot and Cast
According to its synopsis, The Cave follows a group of cave divers hired to investigate ancient Romanian ruins. Their escape route is cut off, and they find themselves hunted by monstrous creatures in a vast network of caverns. The cast includes Cole Hauser, Lena Headey (Game of Thrones), Piper Perabo, and Daniel Dae Kim.
Fan Reactions
One fan described the film as 'extremely underrated,' adding: 'This movie deserves the recognition and the people who made it possible as well.' Another agreed: 'This movie had pretty much everything it should. The photography and scenery were very beautifully done. The cast was fun and varied, Cole Hauser especially was very intense and captivating and carried the movie well. There was plenty of suspense, horror, adventure, action, monsters, special effects, the whole range.'
A viewer looking for a similar title to The Descent said: 'Wanted to put a comfort horror on in the background while working on a rainy day so searched The Descent on Netflix. They didn't have it, so watched the recommended The Cave instead. It was delightful in a wow this is terrible kind of way. I think of it as a boy-band knock-off version of The Descent. Though with a delightful twist that you see coming the whole time.'
Many fans have noted that a key line has been 'burnt into my mind for 19 years.' One claimed: 'Very good action horror! I've watched this a few times over the years and it's never a disappointment.'
The Cave is now streaming on Netflix.
