Netflix's Tarantino Sequel Divides Fans as Brad Pitt Returns

Netflix has released the debut trailer for 'The Adventures of Cliff Booth', a surprise sequel to Quentin Tarantino's 2019 film 'Once Upon a Time in Hollywood', directed by David Fincher. The trailer aired during Super Bowl LX on Sunday, 8th February, and has sparked sharply divided reactions among viewers.

Brad Pitt reprises his role as Cliff Booth, a Hollywood fixer in 1970s Los Angeles who becomes entangled in criminal escapades. The film features an all-star cast including Timothy Olyphant, Scott Caan, Elizabeth Debicki, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Carla Gugino. Fincher directs from a screenplay by Tarantino.

The trailer showcases Tarantino's trademark provocative style, with swearing, weapons, and smoking clumsily censored for the Super Bowl audience. Fans on Reddit expressed mixed opinions, with one noting the visual style is 'a little too far removed from OUATIH' but praising the vibe. Another commented, 'That looks pretty f****n' awesome to me', while a third admitted uncertainty, calling it 'a Fincher production'.

On X (formerly Twitter), reactions were more critical. One user called it a 'Random ahh sequel to Tarantino's worst movie', adding they were not hyped despite Fincher being their favourite director. Another criticised Netflix, saying a Cliff Booth spin-off 'should of been directed by Tarantino'. A final user declared the trailer 'looks awful', despite loving the original film.

'The Adventures of Cliff Booth' does not yet have a precise release date but is confirmed for 2026.
