Netflix's 'My Secret Santa' Channels Mrs Doubtfire in Festive Romcom
Netflix's New Christmas Film 'My Secret Santa' Streams Now

Netflix has unwrapped its latest feel-good Christmas offering, a festive romantic comedy that is already being likened to the iconic 1990s film Mrs Doubtfire. Titled My Secret Santa, the movie began streaming on the platform on December 3, 2025.

A Festive Gender-Swap Premise

The film, directed by Mike Rohl, presents a gender-swapped narrative reminiscent of the Robin Williams classic. Instead of a father disguising himself as a housekeeper, romcom veteran Alexandra Breckenridge takes centre stage as single mother Taylor, who goes undercover as Santa Claus.

The plot sees Taylor lose her job just before Christmas. Her financial struggles intensify when her teenage daughter, Zoey, wins a place at a prestigious and expensive snowboarding school. In a desperate bid to raise the tuition fees quickly, Taylor discovers the school offers a half-price discount for children of the resort's employees.

Finding Love in a Santa Suit

The catch? The only position available at the snowy resort is the seasonal role of the on-site Santa Claus. Undeterred, Taylor undergoes a full Father Christmas transformation. Her comedic secret identity is complicated by a budding romance with the resort's manager, Matthew, played by Ryan Eggold.

Early Reviews Are Largely Positive

Initial critical reactions to the film have been warm. Screen Rant awarded it a 6/10, noting it "lands on an unexpectedly resonant note, blending humour, heartache, and hard-won connection."

Tech Radar gave the comedy three stars, quipping that for a Netflix Christmas movie, that's high praise. Their reviewer admitted to contemplating a rewatch, stating they got "so much joy, warmth and feel-good vibes from Netflix's latest festive offering."

Early audience feedback on platforms like IMDb echoes the Mrs Doubtfire comparisons, with one viewer raving, "If you love Mrs Doubtfire then you'll get a kick out of this film." However, not all were swept away, with another commenting that it was "ok, nothing original & rather clichéd."

The film arrives as part of a promotional offer where Sky is giving away a free Netflix subscription with its new Sky Stream TV bundles, including the £15 Essential TV plan. My Secret Santa is available to stream exclusively on Netflix now.
