Many people suggested Animal Kingdom, an American crime drama series which stars Ellen Barkin, Scott Speedman, Shawn Hatosy and Finn Cole.
What is Animal Kingdom about?
The series, which is based on the 2010 Australian film of the same name, follows 17-year-old Joshua "J" Cody (Finn Cole). He moves in with his estranged, criminal family in Southern California, US, after his mother dies from a heroin overdose.
It centres on the Cody family and their crimes, as well as their calculated heists. The family is ruled by Janine "Smurf" Cody (Ellen Barkin), a controlling grandmother who manages her sons and their illegal enterprises.
While J's uncles include the dangerous and unpredictable oldest son Pope (Shawn Hatosy), volatile drug-abusing middle son Craig (Ben Robson), troubled youngest son Deran (Jack Weary), and Smurf's adopted right-hand man Baz (Scott Speedman).
The series, which ran between 2016-2022, starts as J tries to survive his new life but it slowly turns into a calculated revenge plot against Smurf and the family legacy.
Across its six seasons, the Cody family execute armed robberies, fracture from internal betrayals, survive Smurf's death, and face the explosive fallout of their past.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, this series has a 89% rating, while IMDb viewers scored it a 8.2 out of 10. It also received recognition across several award platforms during its four-year run, including Saturn Award and Golden Reel nominations.
Meanwhile on social media, viewers generally consider Animal Kingdom an intense, addictive drama. People love its engaging thrills, high-stakes family dynamic and praise the adrenaline-pumping heists, as well as its fast-paced plot.
Ellen Barkin receives widespread acclaim for her chilling and commanding portrayal of the manipulative matriarch Smurf, alongside Shawn Hatosy's intense performance as Pope.
However, according to people on Reddit, they believe the characters are deeply criminal, selfish and difficult to root for, making the show "emotionally exhausting" to watch for some.
