Netflix's new horror series Archive 81 has left viewers terrified, with many taking to social media to say they cannot sleep after watching. The eight-episode show, released on 14 January, quickly became a must-watch for horror fans, who describe it as so creepy it causes nightmares.
The series follows archivist Dan Turner, played by Mamoudou Athie, as he restores a collection of damaged videotapes from 1994. The tapes document the work of documentary filmmaker Melody Pendras (Dina Shihabi), who investigated a dangerous cult at the Visser apartment building. As the story unfolds across two timelines, Dan becomes obsessed with uncovering what happened to Melody and the building's residents, eventually forming a mysterious connection with her.
Viewers have warned others not to watch the show late at night. One wrote on Twitter: 'Yup #Archive81 is gonna give me f***ing nightmares.' Another commented: 'Time to try braving Archive 81 again tonight.' A third said: 'If you like horror stories watch Archive 81 on Netflix it’s sooo good.'
Netflix itself has referred to the series as 'a terrifying new series executive produced by James Wan that you won’t want to watch at night'. The show is produced by Rebecca Sonnenshine (The Boys, The Vampire Diaries), James Wan and Michael Clear of Atomic Monster (The Conjuring Universe), and Rebecca Thomas (Stranger Things, Limetown).
