Netflix has reportedly abandoned production on a new drama film centred on the legendary Olympic gymnast Kerri Strug, following the exit of its intended lead actress Millie Bobby Brown. According to sources close to the project, the streaming giant made the decision to scrap the biopic this week after Brown, aged 22, left due to significant creative disagreements.
Project Details and Directorial Changes
The film was set to chronicle the inspiring story of Kerri Strug, who achieved global fame as a pivotal member of the United States women's gymnastics team, famously dubbed the 'Magnificent Seven'. This historic squad secured America's inaugural gold medal in women's gymnastics at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, overcoming immense adversity.
Initially, acclaimed director Gia Coppola was attached to helm the project, but she subsequently stepped down and was replaced by Cate Shortland. The screenplay was being crafted by writer Ronnie Sandahl, though specific plot details remained under wraps. Filming was scheduled to commence this summer but has now been indefinitely postponed following Brown's departure.

The 1996 Olympic victory was a landmark moment in American sports history. The Magnificent Seven, comprising seven exceptionally talented young gymnasts, captivated the nation with their dramatic and nail-biting performance.
