Ricky Gervais is returning to Netflix with a new adult animated sitcom titled Alley Cats, which is set to premiere on 7 August. The series follows a group of stray British cats from diverse backgrounds as they navigate friendship and the absurdities of everyday life.
The show marks a reunion of several After Life cast members, including Kerry Godliman, Tom Basden, Diane Morgan and Tony Way. David Earle, known for his role in Derek, will voice the character Puke, while former EastEnders star Natalie Cassidy takes on multiple roles.
Gervais has described the series as 'like Only Fools and Horses mixed with four legs bad, two legs good', with characters constantly 'rallying against a cruel world'. He serves as creator, lead voice actor and co-director alongside Elliot Dear, whose credits include an episode of Love, Death + Robots.
The first season will consist of at least six episodes, according to the show's IMDB page. Netflix released the debut trailer earlier this week, showcasing Gervais' trademark provocative humour blended with moments of warmth and social observation.
