Netflix bosses are reportedly considering a fourth Inbetweeners film before the third has even been released. Fans of the iconic comedy series have been left on the edge of their seats after behind-the-scenes photos from the set of the upcoming movie were released earlier this month. However, it appears as though viewers might be able to relax after it was reported that Netflix is eyeing up a fourth film.
Momentum from previous films
A TV insider told The Sun: ‘The last time Inbetweeners movies were made, they filmed them one after another, so the first film was in 2011 and the second was in 2014. That kept up some of the momentum – and that’s just the kind of momentum they would want to repeat. There’s also the fact that if they want to ensure all four lads are booked in for another film and don’t take on any more work commitments.’
Creators address cast rumours
Creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley recently confirmed that not every character from the TV series could be included in the new film, including Emily Atack, who seems unlikely to make her return as Charlotte Hinchliff. ‘As you probably know, we’ve started filming a new Inbetweeners adventure,’ they said in a statement. ‘We love that everyone is interested, and it’s brilliant that these four idiots are still considered news.’
However, they added: ‘The rumour mill can sometimes get carried away, so our advice is simple: if you want to fully enjoy what we’ve got in store for you, we’d suggest avoiding photos and conjecture about the story. We promise it’ll be a more enjoyable watch going in knowing nothing. For the record, we’d like to clarify that, try as we might, we couldn’t squeeze every single beloved character from the TV shows into this new film.’
Set photos hint at wedding plot
The latest pictures from the set appear to tease a storyline involving a wedding, with a bride spotted alongside the cast. Actress Marina Bye, the daughter of comedian Ruby Wax, has been pictured in a wedding dress. Emily Head is also expected to be returning as Simon’s long-suffering love interest Carli D’Amato.
However, eagle-eyed observers spotted that James Buckley, who stars Jay Cartwright, might have given away a plot detail about the upcoming Inbetweeners film. In a Cameo video, James had a high-vis jacket with a patch on the front that seems to read ‘Cartwright Plant’. Reddit users theorised that Jay may be working for his dad’s building firm, or he has set up his own and is raking in the cash.
