Multiple seasons of a Great British Bake Off spin-off series, which fans think is even better than the original, have been added to Netflix. As of today (August 25), several episodes of Junior Bake Off are now included in the streamer's library, listed under its US name: Great British Baking Show: Juniors.
Young bakers enter the tent
The reality competition show sees a group of young bakers, typically aged between 9 and 15, enter the famous tent. A total of 16 contestants are chosen and split into two groups of eight. Across one week, they face a number of technical challenges set by judges Liam Charles and Ravneet Gill. Charles was a former contestant on Bake Off himself, while Gill is an accomplished pastry chef and author.
Contestants also have to come up with showstoppers set around a theme, typically involving their personal hero or a dream holiday destination. The top four young bakers of each heat progress to a final week before a champion is crowned in a grand final.
From BBC to Channel 4
The spin-off first debuted on the BBC in 2011 and switched over to Channel 4 with its parent iteration in 2019. That was also the year current presenter and comedian Harry Hill took over hosting duties.
Netflix has now added seasons 6, 7 and 8, which mark an ideal place to start for new fans. One critic claimed the show is 'far superior' to the original series, and another viewer agreed, posting online: "Junior Bake Off is what The Great British Bake Off should be."
Fans praise the series
One viewer expanded: "Amateur bakers learning their craft, not so perfect bakes, reasonable technicals and judges who constructively criticise and actually teach the bakers on how to improve. If you haven't watched it I'd highly recommend it."
Another confessed they find watching it 'so emotional', adding: "I found myself crying and laughing so much." Another explained why more people should watch the series, saying: "This show has so much heart, so many fun moments, and the things these kids bake will blow your mind. I highly recommend watching it and seeing which life lessons a bunch of young bakers can teach you."
Although the series is still competitive, one person admitted: "It’s nerve wracking enough on the adult show, but the tension definitely grows with the kids!" Junior Bake Off (Great British Baking Show: Juniors) is streaming on Netflix and Channel 4.
