BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty was forced to apologise live on air on Thursday morning after incorrectly telling a guest he was no longer in New Orleans.
Munchetty, co-hosting with Charlie Stayt, was interviewing eyewitness Scott Nelson about the New Year's Day attack on Bourbon Street, which left at least 15 dead and 30 injured. Welcoming him via video link, she said: 'Scott, hello to you. I know you are not in New Orleans now but you were there.'
Nelson promptly corrected her, replying: 'Good morning, I actually am still in New Orleans. The scene is directly behind me.' Munchetty acknowledged her mistake, saying: 'It's very clear that you are still shaken and you are still in the city of New Orleans now, my apologies.'
The interview continued as Nelson described the terrifying moments he witnessed inside a nightclub near the scene. The FBI has identified the driver as Shamsud-Din Jabbar and believes he did not act alone.
Separately, Munchetty announced she is releasing a book titled It's Probably Nothing: Critical Conversations on the Women's Health Crisis, due in April, drawing on her own experience with adenomyosis.
