Naga Munchetty's Ice Cream Comment Sparks Clip Resurgence
Naga Munchetty Ice Cream Clip Resurfaces

A 2022 BBC Breakfast clip featuring Naga Munchetty has resurfaced after the presenter's awkward exchange with business reporter Hannah Miller went viral again. The segment, which originally aired during a heatwave, saw Munchetty bluntly stating she did not like ice cream, leaving Miller flabbergasted.

Awkward Exchange in 2022

Munchetty, alongside co-host Charlie Stayt, interviewed Miller live from an ice cream factory in Nantwich. When Miller shared her thoughts on the treats, Munchetty responded: “If I had to eat an ice cream for the rest of my life, it would be pistachio flavour but I don’t like cold food.” Miller appeared taken aback, and Munchetty added: “I’m glad you’re enjoying the ice cream, certainly needed in this weather.”

Back in the studio, Stayt remarked: “I think you rather brought the tone down.” Munchetty laughed and apologised: “Oh be quiet, come on! I apologise.”

Social Media Reaction

The clip recently resurfaced on social media, with one viewer saying “it lives rent free in my head”. Another commented: “Did anyone see this live? The segment/story about ice cream itself is innocuous, but Munchetty's response seems so cringe, and with Stayt's reaction it almost feels like an outtake/parody even in the world of breakfast television.”

One person wrote: “Yeah Munchetty comes off weird and grumpy in that. So deflating for the young reporter.” Another added: “Seen this so many times lol. The first 'i don't like ice cream' was a bit awkward but she could've pulled it back quite easily with a bit of humour. Then she doubles down and gives the poor woman absolutely nothing to work with lmao.”

A user suggested: “Or just lied with a pleasant nothing. Say 'oh yes, I'd love that' and move on.” Another called it “outrageous”, while someone else said: “The side eye at the end gets me every time.” Yet another remarked: “Omfg I’ve never seen this before. That was rough to watch.”

BBC Breakfast airs daily from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer.
