Naga Munchetty was missing from BBC Breakfast on Friday, August 7, following her announcement that she will leave the show in December 2026. Her usual co-host Charlie Stayt presented alongside relief host Sarah Campbell, leading some viewers to speculate that Campbell could be her permanent replacement.

No reason was offered for Munchetty's absence, and viewers quickly took to social media to share their thoughts. One person tweeted: “I think Sarah may replace Naga.” Another asked: “Anyone know where Naga has gone on #BBCBreakfast?”
Some viewers suggested Munchetty might be on holiday, but she has not posted on social media since her absence began.
Munchetty's move to 5 Live
Munchetty announced last month that she is stepping down from Breakfast to present the Radio 5 Live morning show instead. In a statement, she said: “It has been a privilege to be part of the BBC Breakfast TV team for the past 17 years, working alongside an incredibly talented and hard-working group of journalists who are not only outstanding colleagues but also great friends.
“Presenting a flagship programme on 5 Live is an opportunity that was simply too good to pass up. It will take a huge amount of work and require 100% of my focus and energy, and I'm really looking forward to throwing myself into the role.”
Odds on her replacement
Bookmaker Ladbrokes has placed Sarah Campbell at 6/1 odds to replace Munchetty, with Sally Nugent the current frontrunner at 6/4. Luxmy Gopal is at 5/2, Emma Vardy at 3/1, and Nina Warhurst at 9/2.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes told Express.co.uk: “Naga Munchetty's exit will leave BBC chiefs turning to a familiar face, if the latest odds are anything to go by - and as things stand it's unsurprisingly Sally Nugent who heads the betting.”
