Netflix's psychological thriller Unchosen concludes with a bittersweet ending: Rosie (Molly Windsor) and her daughter Grace escape the Fellowship of the Divine, but the cult falls under the control of the manipulative Sam (Fra Fee). The series, which follows Adam (Asa Butterfield) and Rosie, explores the dangers of cult life and the struggle for freedom.
In the finale, Rosie decides to leave after confessing her affair to Adam. He agrees to help her escape, but their plan is thwarted by a fallen tree during a storm. Sam catches up and attempts to drown Rosie, but he releases her at the last moment. Rosie and Grace then find refuge with Mrs Phillips (Siobhan Finneran), a former cult member who has also chosen to leave.
A year later, Sam is shown delivering a sermon to the congregation, fully in control and grinning as he declares, 'We are the chosen ones.' The ending suggests the cycle of abuse continues under a more dangerous leader. Adam disappears from the story after Sam blackmails him with a compromising video, implying he has been cast out or left the cult.
The series also reveals Sam's violent past: he killed his first girlfriend as a teenager and later murdered her cousin in prison. In the present, he murders Isaac to protect his cover. The fate of Phillips, who was framed for Isaac's murder, remains unclear, but it is likely he faced internal punishment rather than being handed to authorities.
