Plot and Premise
The series follows Eliza Scarlet (Kate Phillips), who is left almost penniless in Victorian London after the unexpected death of her father. She takes over his private detective agency, struggling against the male-dominated crime-solving world.
In her new role, Eliza reconnects with her childhood friend William Wellington (Stuart Martin), a Scotland Yard police officer who often assists her with cases.
Viewer Reception
The show has proved popular with viewers, holding an 89% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 7.7/10 on IMDb. One IMDb user called it an "unexpected gem," adding: "This has been a very welcome addition to a time-worn genre, with interesting sets, great costumes, and an authentic period feel."
Another viewer praised the show's story and setting, writing: "It had a really interesting story and beautiful Dublin backdrop posing as Victorian London. My only criticism is not enough episodes - I do hope there are more in the pipeline."
However, not all reactions were positive. One disappointed viewer wrote: "The premise was fine, but I can not imagine a poorer execution in the script. The situations were horribly-contrived - think Lifetime Channel."
