Series Overview
One of the UK's longest-running mystery series, Midsomer Murders is set in the fictional county of Midsomer, where Detective Chief Inspector Tom Barnaby (John Nettles), and later, his cousin, John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon), solve crimes in the surrounding villages. During the show's early instalments, John Nettles' co-stars included Jane Wymark, Daniel Casey, Barry Jackson, Toby Jones and Jason Hughes. Following Nettles' decision to pass the baton, Dudgeon was joined by a number of new additions, with Fiona Dolman, Gwilym Lee, Nick Hendrix and Annette Badland among the cast.

Hailed as a British classic, Midsomer Murders has acquired a loyal fan following. Penning reviews on IMDb, one wrote: 'The show remains unmissable viewing even after all these years, even with all of the changes to the cast, new writers etc. The basic premise has remained unchanged since the start. Barnaby and his sidekick investigate (usually) multiple murders in the seemingly sweet and very picturesque English countryside. It seems with each new episode they attempt to go one better and have a murder that is bigger, more outrageous and simply more outlandish.'
Meanwhile, a second raved: 'Midsomer Murders is the best mystery series currently on TV. John Nettles' acting ability is flawless. The plots are never 'canned' and are always well thought out. It's difficult to figure out who the murderer(s) are until the last minute, and even when or if you do, the motives often are elusive.'
'If you're looking for a realistic portrayal of crime, villages, relationships etc, this is not the show for you,' quipped a third. 'It's fun. It's entertaining. It's cheesy. Each episode has a theme, and it definitely goes all in.'
