Michelle Keegan returns to ITV in new crime drama The Blame

Michelle Keegan will return to screens this autumn in The Blame, a new six-part crime drama on ITV. The series, adapted by screenwriter Megan Gallagher, centres on a murder investigation in the fictional town of Wakestead. Keegan, 39, plays DI Emma Crane.

Return to ITV after a year away

The former Coronation Street and Our Girl star has been a familiar face on television for years. She welcomed her first child, a daughter named Palma, with husband Mark Wright last year.

ITV has teased “complex characters, unexpected twists and a mystery at its core.” The broadcaster added: “The drama dives into secrets, suspicion and systemic corruption - all under the surface of this seemingly quiet town.”

Murder enquiry spirals into a web of lies

As DI Emma Crane and DI Tom Radley dig deeper into what starts as a tragic death that sends shockwaves through Wakestead, a murder enquiry soon spirals into a tangled web of lies, institutional cover-ups and moral compromise. As the clock ticks and trust fractures, Crane must navigate both a murder investigation and the treacherous politics inside her own team.

Cast and supporting roles

The drama also stars Ian Hart (Mr Bates vs. The Post Office, The Last Kingdom) as DCI Kenneth Walker and Nathan Mensah as DC Lewis Brimah. Nigel Boyle (Line of Duty, Peaky Blinders) plays digital forensic technician Neil Shergill, Joe Armstrong (Gentleman Jack, Black Mirror) plays ice-skating coach Kyle Frasier, and Matilda Freeman (How to get to Heaven from Belfast, Passenger) is Sophie Madsen.

Gavin Spokes (House of the Dragon, Slow Horses), Josh Bolt (Masters of the Air, Last Tango in Halifax) and Ceallach Spellman (Cheaters, White Lines) are part of the Wakestead Police team as DC Joel Stevens, DC Douglas James and PC Callum Drummond. The Blame will launch on ITV this autumn.
