Tickets are now on sale for the Mercury Prize's return to Newcastle, with the judging panel for the annual best album award revealed and the shortlist set to be announced this week.

The Mercury Prize, which celebrates the best new British and Irish music, will take place at Utilita Arena on October 22. This Thursday, the 12 shortlisted nominations for Album of the Year will be announced live on BBC Radio 6 Music and BBC Sounds, with a special event at Fenwick.
The return follows 2025's success, when the event first ventured outside London and saw Sam Fender crowned winner in his home city. Newcastle also hosted the MOBO Awards for the first time outside the capital last year.
Judges and Host
The judging panel announced this Monday includes musician Jamie Cullum, broadcaster Jeff Smith (chair), Danielle Perry, composer and DJ AFRODEUTSCHE, DJ Sian Eleri, songwriter and DJ MistaJam, music writer Sophie Williams, music programming consultant Lea Stonhill, Phil Alexander of Kerrang! magazine, and The Times' critic Will Hodgkinson.
Radio 1 presenter and DJ Maia Beth, from Washington, returns to host interviews with shortlisted artists and red carpet coverage. She said: “It’s an absolute pleasure to be back working with the Mercury Prize this year. Last year's Mercury Prize was a celebration of music - from jazz to pop and everything in between. Having it in Newcastle brought attention to a place I’m so proud of and I can’t wait to be back celebrating the best music in the best place.”
The Mercury Prize is hosted in partnership with Newcastle City Council. Tickets, priced £48.75 and £60.25, are available to join the audience.
