Coronation Street's villainous Megan Walsh could be making a shock return to the cobbles, despite being sentenced to five years in prison last week for grooming teenager Will Driscoll. Actress Beth Nixon, who plays Megan, has teased a potential comeback, leaving fans speculating about her character's future.
Megan's Crimes and Sentencing
Megan first appeared on the ITV soap last year as an athletics coach for Will Driscoll, who moved from Hull to Weatherfield with his family. It was later revealed that Megan had been secretly grooming 16-year-old Will for months before his move, and she was pregnant with his child. The pair planned to run away together, but the truth emerged, leading to Will reporting Megan to the police.
Last week, Megan stood trial, with lawyer Adam Barlow pleading her case. Despite a rocky start, the jury found her guilty on two charges: inciting a child into sexual activity and doing so while in a position of trust. She was sentenced to five years in prison. In Monday's episode (July 6), it was revealed that Megan had already been involved in a fight behind bars, much to the delight of Weatherfield residents.
Beth Nixon Hints at Return
Speaking on the Inside Soap podcast, Beth Nixon teased a possible return for Megan. When asked if Megan could appear again soon, she said: “We’ll see, we will have to wait and see!” She also expressed her willingness to reprise the role from behind bars: “I’d love to. Any opportunity to come back I would always come back. I mean I loved it so much. I cried so much on my last day!”
Nixon added: “But yeah I’d love to come back. It’s such a fab place to work and I felt so blessed to have been given that storyline because there was so much in it. I was trusted with so much material and I like to think hopefully that people have enjoyed the storyline. So yeah, I’d love to see Megan in prison that’d be great.”
Megan's Prison Future
Discussing how Megan would cope in prison, Nixon shared: “She’s obviously very manipulative and she’s always able to worm her way out of situations but there’s a real broad range of personalities that are going to be in prison with her.” This suggests that Megan's manipulative nature could lead to further drama behind bars, potentially setting up future storylines.
Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
