Matt Tebbutt labelled Ricky Gervais' new Netflix comedy Alley Cats "filth" during Saturday Kitchen, after a clip of the animated series was shown in the studio.
The chef was joined by Sam Evans, Shauna Guinn and Justin Tsang, with Olly Smith on drinks. Kerry Godliman, the actress and comedian who has appeared with Gervais in Afterlife and Derek, also stopped by to discuss her work and upcoming projects.
A blunt verdict
Kerry, who voices a character in the new series, introduced the clip to the kitchen and viewers at home. Matt was clearly impressed, but quickly warned that the cartoon is not for younger audiences.
He said: "And that is the only clip we can show, because it's filth!"
Kerry agreed: "Oh yeah, there is a lot of filth. But that is a sweet clip."
Matt added: "Yeah, it's not family viewing. Unless you have teenagers."
What is Alley Cats?
According to The Guardian, the show centres on a group of stray cats who pass the time watching television while lounging on a sofa in a run-down house. The gang is led by Gus, an overweight ginger tom voiced by Ricky Gervais, whose loud, cynical outbursts dominate conversations.
Tom Basden voices Ponce, a well-groomed pedigree cat with a sensible outlook who is mocked for being neutered. David Earl voices Puke, an unkempt and crude character known for outrageous remarks and bizarre stories, including a shocking anecdote involving a hedgehog.
Creator's request
Alley Cats is set to land on Netflix on August 7th and is reportedly filled with sweary banter, leading Gervais to ask viewers not to be offended.
As reported by the Mirror, Gervais said: "It would take a very special kind of person to complain about what a fictional cartoon cat thought of something, but it will happen. Please don’t be offended by anything these characters say or do. They can’t help it. They’re cats. So sometimes, they’re ****s."
Saturday Kitchen airs Saturdays from 10am on BBC One.
