The BBC's latest drama series, Marble Hall Murders, premieres on BBC One on Saturday, September 26, at 9.35pm. The six-part series, adapted from a novel by Anthony Horowitz, is available to stream on BBC iPlayer. It has already aired in the United States on PBS, beginning September 6.
Plot and Premise
Marble Hall Murders is the final installment in the Susan Ryeland Mysteries, following Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders. It marks the return of book editor turned sleuth Susan Ryeland and the literary detective Atticus Pünd. The series has been praised for combining two narratives—one in the real world and one fictional.
The synopsis reads: “Editor Susan Ryeland is hired to work on a continuation novel of the Atticus Pünd series, written by a troubled young author. When the job leads Susan into another murder case, she unexpectedly finds herself a suspect.” In the novel's world, Atticus Pünd visits the island of Corfu and becomes embroiled in the murder of Lady Margaret Chalfont, whose family he investigates with the assistance of a Greek detective.

Lesley Manville leads as Susan Ryeland. The 70-year-old has won a Tony Award and two Laurence Olivier Awards, with nominations for an Academy Award, two BAFTAs, five BAFTA Television Awards, a Golden Globe, and an Emmy. Her film credits include Secrets & Lies, Vera Drake, Maleficent, and Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris, plus TV roles in Emmerdale, Sherwood, and The Crown.
Tim McMullan plays Atticus Pünd, the detective who is pulled out of retirement after a terminal brain tumour diagnosis. He has appeared in Foyle's War, Enola Holmes 2, and Fackham Hall.
The rest of the cast includes Jamie Blackley (If I Stay), Patricia Hodge (All Creatures Great and Small), Mark Bonnar (Line of Duty), Harry Lloyd (Game of Thrones), Rupert Penry-Jones (Spooks), Zubin Varla (Andor), Amelia Bullmore (Scott & Bailey), Danny Sapani (Killing Eve), and Claire Rushbrook (Rivals).
