The first trailer for the upcoming 'Malcolm in the Middle' sequel series has dropped, revealing a release date of April 10. Titled 'Malcolm in the Middle: Life’s Still Unfair,' the four-episode special will stream on Disney+ via the Hulu brand, reuniting the original cast nearly two decades after the show ended.
Frankie Muniz returns as Malcolm, alongside Bryan Cranston as Hal and Jane Kaczmarek as Lois. Justin Berfield and Christopher Masterson reprise their roles as brothers Reece and Francis, while Erik Per Sullivan’s character Dewey has been recast as the actor has quit showbusiness to study at Harvard. Other familiar faces include Gary Anthony Williams as Abe Kenarban and Emy Coligado as Piama.
The synopsis sees Malcolm, who has successfully avoided his family for over a decade, dragged back into the chaos when his parents demand his presence at their 40th anniversary party. The trailer suggests little goes to plan.
Fan reactions have been mixed. Some expressed excitement, with one writing: 'It’s good that everyone is still the same character personality wise.' Others voiced doubts, such as one fan who noted: 'Doesn’t look to be shot in the same way as the rest of the series. That could go against this... Hopefully the writing is just as good though.'
The original series holds a 90% fan score on Rotten Tomatoes, setting high expectations for the sequel. All episodes will be available to stream from April 10.
