Andrey Santos has received glowing praise from Harry Maguire after signing for Manchester United. The midfielder has settled in well under Michael Carrick, who was full of praise for the midfielder.
Maguire's Comments on Santos
Maguire appeared on the Sky Sports Golf channel during The Open and made his thoughts clear on Santos. He said: "Andrey played yesterday. He really impressed us in the first week and I think we've signed two great players there," as he mentioned fellow newcomer Youri Tielemans.
The centre-half played with Santos during the first half against Wrexham and enjoyed the 22-year-old's first 45 minutes as a Red Devil. Santos signed a five-year deal worth an initial £48million after joining from Chelsea.
Carrick's Praise
The midfielder had already impressed Carrick before he made his debut. Carrick said: "He's settled in really well, he's a fantastic character. He's settled in so quickly and he's buzzing to be here, you can see that."
While United lost 1-0 to the Welsh outfit, the boss wasn't deterred and continued his praise of Santos. He added: "There’s loads of little positives to take from the game. I thought Andrey and Mason [Mount] did some really good things and connected really well. I could see some positives there.
"[At the] top end of the pitch, just because it is a week in, those sharp little movements and bright moments that you are looking for, they come as you progress through the weeks of training. That is what it is. There were good signs from Andrey on his first one, he’s getting in the rhythm and feel of it again, so it was good to see him in a red shirt."
Santos' Excitement
Santos previously expressed his excitement about becoming a United player and pinpointed the one thing he was most looking forward to. He said: "I know Matheus Cunha very well, we’ve played together [in the] national team, I know Mason [Mount] as well because I remember [at] the last game [between United and Chelsea] we spoke.
"I know Bruno [Fernandes], I swapped shirts with Bruno in the last game at Old Trafford, so I’m excited to play with these guys.
"I can learn a lot too from Bruno, so I’m so excited to play with my team-mates, with Bruno, with Matheus, with Kobbie [Mainoo], with Amad, with Diogo [Dalot], with Harry [Maguire], so with everyone."
