Fans of the hit BBC series Ludwig are counting down the days as the second series is set to air on August 20, with many sharing the same two-word message: “Can’t wait.”
Record-Breaking First Series
The first series debuted in 2024 and attracted over 9.5 million viewers in just 28 days, making it the BBC’s biggest scripted series and biggest comedy launch episode.
Joining the cast for the new series are Fleabag star Sian Clifford and actor Mark Bonnar, who appeared on the first Celebrity Traitors.
Plot Picks Up After Cliffhanger
The plot continues from the end of the first series. David Mitchell’s John is now employed as a crime scene consultant, working alongside DCI Russell Carter, played by Dipo Ola, on crimes for the Cambridge Police Authority.
John’s identical twin brother, James, is still missing, but John has been banned from using police resources to find him. However, John will not stop, and neither will Anna Maxwell Martin’s Lucy, James’s wife.
Teasers and Fan Reactions
Teasing the new series, David Mitchell said: “When you watch the second series, you realise there's still quite a lot of obfuscation involved in his role, because not everyone in the police force is entirely on side with his appointment.”
He added: “And of course, he's still got to cover up the fact that for a long time he was solving cases while impersonating a police officer. And if that ever gets out, well, five murderers will walk free, and he won't walk free himself.”
Praising his new co-stars, he said: “They were brilliant, very funny. They're new characters, they're very funny characters. They've got a great dynamic with each other, but overall the situation remains the same.”

On the official BBC iPlayer Instagram, a clip was shared with the caption: “Ludwig is back! Watch Series 1 on BBC iPlayer now. Series 2 coming 20 Aug.
