Love Island fans have expressed fury after Sam Taylor became the first islander to be dumped from the villa, just 24 hours after entering. The new batch of singletons arrived on Monday night (June 3) hoping to find love, but their hopes were quickly dashed when host Maya Jama announced a series of twists.
Upon arrival, Maya asked the new islanders to rate each other from most to least boyfriend/girlfriend material, which determined their initial pairings. Shortly after, a surprise celebrity bombshell, Joey Essex, entered the villa, and Maya confirmed he was there to stay.
Joey then played a game of dares, kissing three girls – Samantha, Harriett and Nicole. The next evening, he received a text instructing him to make his decision, and he chose to couple up with Samantha, leaving Sam single and immediately dumped from the island.
Viewers were quick to vent their frustration on social media, with one asking: 'What’s the point in doing a months long application process … to be sent home on the 1st day?' Another demanded the producers bring Sam back, calling his elimination 'unfair'. Others echoed similar sentiments, with one fan stating: 'The kicked my boy sam off #loveIsland ALREADY.'
Some fans also expressed concern for Sam in the moments before his exit, noting he seemed invisible to the other islanders. 'Why is everyone acting like Sam is invisible?' one asked, while another commented: 'Does sam’s breath stink? why is no one going for him.' The swift dumping has left many questioning the show's format.
