Love Island cast not allowed to watch England World Cup match

A spokesperson for Love Island has confirmed that there are no plans for the villa to watch England's World Cup quarter-final match against Norway, according to Goss.Ie. The ITV show typically prohibits Islanders from having contact with the outside world, including access to television broadcasts of live events, but producers made an exception during the Euro 2021 final.

Producers bent rules for Euro 2021 final

When England reached the final of the European Championship in 2021, the Love Island villa received a text message announcing: "Islanders, tonight you will be able to watch the England football team play Italy in the final of the European Championship! #ItsComingHome." This rare deviation from the show's strict no-outside-contact policy has led fans to speculate whether a similar allowance could be made for the World Cup, especially if England secures a spot in the final.

England's national team has advanced to the quarter-finals after a series of victories, including a late-night match against Mexico that kept fans up until 1am. The team is set to face Norway on Saturday, July 11, at 10pm.

Ex-Islander reveals strict rules on football scores

Former Love Island contestant Rosie Williams has shed light on how strictly the no-outside-contact rule is enforced. Speaking to the Metro, she explained that contestants repeatedly tried to find out football scores but were always denied. "The boys, and me as well, we would try and find out the scores but no one would tell us anything and we asked if we could possibly watch it but [they said] 'no,'" Rosie said. She added: "In Love Island you are just in the villa with no contact from outside world so watching football would be some contact."

Some contestants have even been accused of attempting to bypass the rules. Fan favourite Scott Van-der-Sluis was recently called out by his All Stars castmates for allegedly Googling football scores during a dentist appointment.

No plans for World Cup screening

Despite the precedent set by the Euro 2021 final, a spokesperson has confirmed that there are currently no plans for the villa to watch England's quarter-final match against Norway. This leaves Love Island fans to divide their attention between villa drama and the World Cup, while the Islanders remain completely out of the loop on England's international victories.

Love Island airs Sundays to Fridays at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
