ITV presenter Laura Woods collapsed during the broadcaster’s live buildup to England Women’s friendly against Ghana at St Mary’s Stadium on Tuesday evening. The 38-year-old was pitchside with pundits Ian Wright and Anita Asante when the incident occurred, prompting an immediate cut to an advertisement break.
Coverage resumed with fellow presenter Katie Shanahan taking over, who confirmed that Woods had fallen ill. Woods later took to Instagram to address the incident, writing: “Sorry to worry everyone, I’m ok, the wonderful paramedics at Saints have said it’s probably a virus, just need a bit of rest & hydration.” She expressed embarrassment that it happened live on television, but thanked Wright and Asante for catching her as she fell.
Woods, who also presents TNT Sport’s Champions League coverage, was trending on social media following the incident. She apologised to colleagues at ITV for any concern caused, adding: “A big thank you to my colleagues at ITV who have really looked after me tonight.”
