ITV boss Kevin Lygo has confirmed the future of Lorraine Kelly's show, easing fears among viewers that it could be axed after the broadcaster cut its broadcast time. Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Lygo addressed the future of daytime programmes including Good Morning Britain, Lorraine, This Morning and Loose Women.
Lygo confirmed their future in five words: "Yes, we'll continue with it." He added: "It's commissioned forever and ever. We've just been through a change, and the teams have done an extraordinary job to maintain what they produce on a regular basis."
ITV scheduling changes
At the end of last year, ITV announced it would undergo a major shake-up in 2026. Lorraine's programme, which has been running since 2010, was cut back to 30 minutes, down from a full hour, and now airs for only 30 weeks on a seasonal schedule. Loose Women was also stripped back to airing only 30 weeks of the year as part of ITV's budget changes.
During the weeks Lorraine isn't on, Good Morning Britain has been extended for an extra 30 minutes. Currently, both programmes are on their break, with Lorraine confirming her break on July 3 and no return date announced.
Fan concerns and Kelly's response
As the two shows have had their broadcast time significantly reduced, some fans have aired concerns that they could be getting the chop entirely. Online, one person shared: "I'd be very, very surprised if either are still on-air by the end of the year."
Lygo said: "I think it's really important for our audiences and big volumes are people watching for hours and hours every day. It's very cost-effective, and it's great to have that live connection on a daily basis to your audience. So, yeah, of course, it will continue."
Lorraine is currently on her break and has kept herself busy, having attended her daughter Rosie's wedding this month. Speaking about the changes at the time, the Scottish star revealed she has no plans to leave the broadcaster anytime soon. She told The Mirror in 2025: "I don't see me going anywhere until people get fed up, you know? Until people say, I've had enough of that one."
However, she felt for her team, who had been impacted by the changes as her production crew were downsized and merged following a studio move. Lorraine added: "It's really heartbreaking to split up the team, a lot of my team have been with me for more than 20 years, and they're my friends. I've grown up with them. They were babies when they started with me, and now they've got babies of their own."
