Lindsay Lohan is set to reunite with director Mark Waters for a new romance film coming to Netflix. The actress is best known for starring in noughties dramas like Mean Girls and Freaky Friday, both directed by Waters.
The actor-filmmaker duo are once again working together on a new movie called Return to You. Set in 2008, the drama follows a powerful but lonely attorney, played by Lohan, who mistakenly receives a very emotional DVD that a dying woman addressed to her husband. With only the clues on the disc to guide her, the lawyer sets out to find the deceased woman's spouse.
Cast and production details
Lohan will lead the cast alongside Crazy Rich Asians actor Henry Golding. Waters will direct the romance film, which was written by Eric Champnella.
Netflix confirmed the drama is now in production, posting an image of Lohan holding the script on Instagram. The announcement sparked a frenzy among romcom fans, with one commenting: "This already feels like the kind of rom com we've been missing." Someone else posted: "another Lindsay Netflix movie?? we won," while a third fan chimed in: "Set in 2008" OHHHH THE SOUNDTRACK WILL BE HIT AFTER HIT!". Others celebrated the reunion, with someone sharing: "The two of them can never go wrong together. I suspect this will be fantastic already."
Lohan's recent Netflix films
This marks Lohan's fourth Netflix film in four years. She previously fronted the 2022 festive movie Falling For Christmas, which follows a newly-engaged young woman battling amnesia following a skiing accident. In 2024, the 40-year-old starred in another romantic comedy called Irish Wish, about a young woman whose dream man is days away from marrying her best friend. Her latest Netflix feature, Our Little Secret, came out in November 2024 and centres on two exes forced to spend the holidays together after finding out their new partners are siblings.
