The BBC has announced further casting for the seventh series of Jed Mercurio's hit crime thriller Line of Duty, ahead of filming beginning in Northern Ireland. The new series, produced by World Productions for BBC iPlayer and BBC One, is set to air next year.
New cast members include Tom Weston-Jones as Detective Inspector Dominic Gough, leader of Tactical Operations Unit 7 (TO-7). Gough is a charismatic officer accused of abusing his position as a sexual predator, but questions remain over whether his case is a distraction from a larger threat. Joining him are Laura Aikman as DC Paula Beckman, Levi Brown as DC Luke Tobin, and Amy Leigh Hickman as DC Nira Rashid, alongside previously announced guest lead Robert Carlyle as Specialist Rifle Officer DC Shaun Massie.
Several familiar faces from previous series will return, including Mark Bonnar as former Deputy Chief Constable Mike Dryden, Owen Teale as Chief Constable Philip Osborne, Perry Fitzpatrick as DS Chris Lomax, and Christina Chong as DI Nicky Rogerson. Further new cast members include David Calder, Steven Elder, Dominic Mafham, Sarah Andre White, Aimee Powell, and Naomi Yang.
Jed Mercurio expressed his honour at working with the new cast and anticipation for the return of beloved characters. Simon Heath, CEO of World Productions, also welcomed the new additions. Mercurio will write and create the series, directing episodes 4-6, with Jennie Darnell directing the first three episodes. Ken Horn serves as producer, with executive producers including Mercurio, Heath, and Nick Lambon for the BBC. The series is made with support from Northern Ireland Screen.
