First Trailer Released for Liam Neeson’s Naked Gun Reboot

Paramount has released the first trailer for its upcoming reboot of the spoof police comedy series The Naked Gun. The film stars Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr, the son of Leslie Nielsen’s iconic bumbling detective from the original movies.

The trailer presents Drebin Jr as a slicker operator than his father, seen disarming a villain disguised as a schoolgirl using a sharpened lollipop. In an emotional moment, he addresses a photograph of Drebin Sr, while offspring of Captain Ed Hocken (originally played by George Kennedy) and Officer Nordberg (OJ Simpson) also appear.

Simpson died last year, as did Jim Abrahams, one of the co-creators of the original series. Kennedy died in 2016 and Nielsen in 2010. The new film is directed by Akiva Schaffer and produced by Seth Macfarlane. Pamela Anderson and Danny Huston also star.

Neeson, 72, was Oscar-nominated for Schindler’s List and found later fame in action films like the Taken series. Despite suggestions he might retire from action roles, he recently appeared in 2024’s Absolution.

The three original Naked Gun films were both critically acclaimed and commercially successful, grossing $166m at the box office and enjoying strong home entertainment sales.
