Liam Neeson has expressed his reluctance to reprise his role as Qui-Gon Jinn in the Star Wars universe, citing the franchise's numerous spinoffs as detrimental to its mystique. During an appearance on 'Watch What Happens Live!' with Paul Rudd on February 16, Neeson stated that the proliferation of spinoffs is 'diluting' the brand and 'taken away the mystery and the magic in a weird way.'
Neeson, who debuted as the Jedi master in 1999's 'Star Wars: The Phantom Menace,' had a brief cameo in the Disney+ series 'Obi-Wan Kenobi' with only two lines. He previously told ComicBook.com that he would consider returning only if it were for a film, not a television show, admitting he is 'a bit of a snob when it comes to TV' and prefers the big screen.
The actor's comments come as Lucasfilm has expanded the Star Wars franchise with theatrical releases like 'Rogue One' and 'Solo,' alongside Disney+ series such as 'The Mandalorian,' 'The Book of Boba Fett,' 'Andor,' and 'Obi-Wan Kenobi.' Upcoming projects include 'The Mandalorian' season three, 'Ahsoka,' and 'The Acolyte.'
