Leonardo DiCaprio has reflected on turning 50, revealing that he still feels as though he is in his early 30s. The Hollywood actor, known for roles in Titanic and The Wolf of Wall Street, turned 50 in November.
In an interview with filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson for Esquire magazine, DiCaprio was asked how old he feels if he didn’t know his actual age. He replied, “32.” When asked if turning 50 prompts reflection, DiCaprio said it creates a desire to be more honest and not waste time, adding that he looks to his mother as an example of speaking her mind.
He said: “Being more upfront and risking having things fall apart … it’s that you just don’t want to waste your time any more. You have to just be much more upfront. It’s almost a responsibility because much more of your life is behind you than it is ahead of you.”
DiCaprio stars in Anderson’s new film One Battle After Another, an action thriller about ex-revolutionaries rescuing his character’s daughter. On avoiding post-filming blues, he takes long breaks between projects, saying “life goes on hold when you’re filming.”
Reflecting on his career, DiCaprio noted he rarely watches his films but singled out The Aviator as one he has watched more than others. He called it “a key part of my growing up in this industry” and the first time he felt like a true collaborator rather than just an actor.
